A friend of mine recently said, “There’s something wonderful about Thanksgiving, despite its roots in Puritan America. The Puritans were so pious that they considered forks a luxury, and the fact that a tradition they (sort of) started is flourishing in the modern world is somewhat incredible. That the Thanksgiving holiday has made it to this point with minimal crass commercialization is even more incredible: Today, Thanksgiving is still just about getting together with family and enjoying a fine meal. Oh, and watching some football. It’s exactly what the Puritans envisioned, I’m sure.”

No matter where you are from, it is a time for families to get together, give thanks, and celebrate with food. And don’t forget football (I bet those Pilgrims loosened their big ol’ buckles and just stared at the camp fire … until half-time).

Thanksgiving this year was good as usual. This year we went to SLC and spend it with the extended family on my Mom’s side. It is good to get together every once and a while to swap family stories and catch up on each others lives. Another reason I like it is that I get to let my kids run around with the other cousins and I can actually sit and enjoy a meal with other adults. The family reserves a LDS chapel so after the meal we got to go play some basketball in the gym and burn of about 1/34 of the calories that I had just consumed.

Another great thing is I was able to have my sister and her family come to my home and see it for the first time since we bought it. I know, I know, I am proud of the house we bought. Even though it is not the coolest house I have ever seen, it is MINE and there is something to be said for that in my opinion.

Oh, one more thing before I close this entry. I now officially allow for Christmas music to be played. I personally think that seasonal music should all be held off until the day after Thanksgiving. I know that my opinion doesn’t really matter but at least it is heard.

Another Halloween has come and gone. Starting this month I have re-devoted myself to posting more stories and info on my blog. So let’s start here.

Some of our friends threw a Halloween party on October 27th and it was a requirement to come dressed up. Actually, it was a show off my new house party, but they thought it would be nice to combine them together. There house was really nice. Something to definitely be proud of. We had to have a costume to go, so it was time to think fast. Our daughter Kelsie decided a long time ago that she wanted to be Thumbelina. She wore a little wedding dress that her grandma made, with a wand and some wings. Clarissa was a little pony. Sariah was a witch, and I was ‘yo mamma’. I wore an old bath robe and threw some curlers in my hair. If you would like to see some photos go to the 2006 gallery and see.

Our family went to a pumpkin patch and picked our own pumpkins for the first time. Sariah and Kelsie thought this was the coolest thing in the world. The day before Halloween we carved two of the pumpkins and cooked the third to make pie, and other pumpkin goods. We also did a Halloween dinner by having pumpkin shaped pizza and having dry ice drinks.

On Halloween our ward did a trunk-or-treat and after that we went to our old neighborhood, because we felt we knew more people there than we do in our new neighborhood. Plus going to get candy is a great excuse to visit old friends.

My work also allowed us to dress up and man there are a lot of creative people that I work with. One person came as a penny, another as an Arab, and a group came as Warren Jeffs and his wives. They really cracked my up.

If you want to see more photos of these events they are in the 2006 gallery.
